There are two available hybrid powertrains: a regular hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The difference is that a hybrid relies on an internal combustion engine with an electric battery for backup, while the plug-in works in reverse, relying on an electric battery with an internal combustion engine for backup.

The 2.5L hybrid engine offers 192 total system horsepower with 155 lb-ft or torque, while the plug-in hybrid offers 210 total system horsepower with the same amount of torque. Since they offer the same amount of torque, they both have a maximum available towing capacity of 1,500 pounds.

You might have also heard that hybrid models have slightly less room than their internal combustion contemporaries because the rear must hold the auxiliary battery. While the battery location is correct, the 2023 Ford Escape Hybrid still has plenty of interior space.
