Power and Performance
The Chevy Traverse has one engine that gets you where you need to go. The standard 3.6L V6 engine uses a 9-speed automatic transmission to generate 310 horsepower. You'll have the option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with a few different drive mode options to customize your driving experience.
However, the Ford Explorer has three engine options to choose from, giving you more flexibility to get the power and fuel economy you want from an SUV. The standard 2.3L EcoBoost® I-4 delivers 300 horsepower and has fuel-saving tech to help make the most of every drop of gas.
The second engine option for the Explorer is the available 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 engine that offers a whopping 400 horsepower. The third engine option is a hybrid engine-a 3.3L hybrid with 318 total horsepower.
The Explorer also offers available intelligent 4-wheel drive, although it comes with a Terrain Management Systemâ„¢ which prepares you to go off-road by letting to choose among seven drive modes.
Inside the Cabins
Both the Traverse and the Explorer have comfortable interiors with available leather-trimmed seats. They each seat seven passengers, so you can bring along the whole family no matter where you're headed.
There's no need to compromise on temperature, either. Each SUV has standard tri-zone automatic temperature control. You can set three different temperatures so everyone remains comfortable.
The Traverse and the Explorer each have their own infotainment systems, too. They allow you to stream music, make calls, and get directions, all from the touchscreen in your SUV. The Explorer has a larger display with a 10.1-inch touchscreen compared to the Traverse's 8-inch touchscreen.
Versatility Options
When you choose an SUV, you're probably hoping it not only can haul the family around but also grab cargo and help with many daily tasks.
Both the Chevy Traverse and the Ford Explorer have an available hands-free liftgate. You don't have to set anything down to open the trunk. Just swipe your foot under the bumper, making it easy.
If you're looking to pile several people into the Traverse or Explorer, the ability to move your seat matters-as well as how easily that's accomplished. The Traverse has a Smart Slide Second Row Seat, making it easy to access the third row. The Explorer, on the other hand, has both PowerFold® third-row seats and E-Z Entry second-row seating.
